Team Update

Competition Season Underway for Girls Xcel and Compulsory Teams!

october19team.JPGAltius gymnasts in Junior Olympic Levels 4 & 5, and Xcel Levels Bronze, Silver, and Gold competed in their first meet of the season – the Altius Harvest Classic – this past weekend! Congratulations to the Silver Team and Level 5 Team for taking 1st place! For several of our Bronze and Silver gymnasts, it was their first meet experience ever! Check out photos from the weekend on our Facebook page

Is your daughter interested in competitive gymnastics?  Altius offers competitive tracks for a variety of age, talent, and commitment levels.

  • Select classes are invite-only for girls & boys ages 5 – 7; select gymnasts show above-average strength, coordination, flexibility, and interest in gymnastics. Classes focus on preparing young athletes for future placement on team. For a skill test, please email altius@altiusgym.com.
  • Our seasonal In-House League is open to all girls ages 6 & up; gymnasts who participate in League are given priority consideration for our traveling teams. Our Winter Season begins in January 2020. Click HERE for more info
  • Our traveling Xcel (ages 9 & up) & Developmental (ages 9 & under) teams require a year-round commitment of 2 – 3 days per week. Teams are invitation only and form in the Spring of 2020. We recommend joining the Winter League or requesting a Select Class evaluation to be considered for our traveling teams.

What's Happening in Class?

Kindergym

October starts with the “1st & 10” football theme and ends with our “Creepy Crawly” Halloween theme. Themes help our students relate gymnastics to the outside world, allow us to flex our imagination muscles, and keep the repetition of gymnastics skills interesting. The 1st and 10 theme incorporates throwing, catching, and general fitness movements like push-ups and sit-ups along with traditional gymnastics skills.

Girls Beginner & 1-2 Classes

These lesson plans also draw inspiration from the bi-weekly theme. On vault, students are working on their run into a hurdle, plus a variety of general fitness exercises; push-ups, sit-ups, etc. We are working cartwheels on floor, with an emphasis on determining each student’s preferred “side” (right or left).

Ninja

Our Ninja students are playing the Bearcat game this month! Bearcat features multiple obstacle tracks where students get to “choose their own adventure.” The goal is to make it as far as possible through the obstacles without touching the ground, all while collecting bean bags for points.

Coming in November- Boys Classes, Tumbling, and Girls 3 – 4, Novice 1-2, and Advanced 3-4 Class Updates!

Skill Review & Evaluations

The final two weeks of October and the beginning of November will focus on skill review and evaluation. Students will be evaluated on the skills that have been included in the lesson plans over the past 8 weeks. Skills are marked either “tested” or “attained.” Attained means that they can perform the skill with proficiency. You can view your child’s skill chart by logging into your customer portal.

Students are eligible for promotion to the next level when they reach the appropriate age and can perform skills at their current level with proficiency.

To see video examples of “attained” skills for each class level, follow these links:
